Marika Jones is a freelance digital print artist and painter. She was born in Dunedin and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. Marika attended Auckland University where she studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts for two years, finishing her third year at Northtec, where she was awarded a Bachelor of Visual Arts.
Marika spends a lot of time researching images of interest. Historic images in her work are out of copyright or represent only a small percentage of the new image, so all of Marika’s representations are legal. Different images are mashed together and repainted to create a new narrative that is unique to Marika. Where a historic image is used in its totality, it is out of copyright; the image is refreshed and given a new lease of life through her art.
Marika has featured in editorial publications, designed magaine covers, and is selling a range of fine art Limited Edition prints throughout New Zealand and Internationally. She is currently living and working in Grey Lynn, Auckland.
