Beilschmiedia tawa is a New Zealand native evergreen tree that grows slowly but can reach mighty heights. Here the tree’s richly-coloured purple fruit, a favourite food for Kereru, stands out against its light green leaves. This pencil and watercolour illustration was created in 1941.
