Evelyn Page was a Christchurch born artist with a tenure spanning seven decades. Her works are dominated by the use of pure colour which gives life to her chosen piece by creating multifaceted and layered paintings that leave much to interpretation.
• Medium: Oil on Canvas
• The overall dark palette used in this piece, evokes a classic day in Wellington, New Zealand. Gloomy yet bustling and full of life.
• The use of unbordered lines give a feeling of openness and fluidity to the piece, as if the piece itself is willing to change despite being set in oil
• The perspective taken is interesting in that a spire covers the middle of the piece dissecting the scenery allowing the exhibition of a simultaneously busy (left) and calm (right) environment.
