Evelyn Page was a Christchurch born artist with a tenure spanning seven decades. Her works are dominated by the use of pure colour which gives life to her chosen piece by creating multifaceted and layered paintings that leave much to interpretation.
- Medium: Oil on Canvas
- The use of unbordered lines and predominance of white tones allow for the illusion of the muse being fully clothed with an air of reminiscence around her
- The presentation of the doorway is distinctly abstract, and can be interpreted multiple ways, as the colour palette may denote both nature (greens and yellows) and incandescent light (blues and whites)
- The depiction of her face allows the viewer to empathize with the muse with clever use of shadows hiding a lot of emotion, but leaving just enough to question whether she is somber or lost in thought.
