E Mervyn Taylor

Ernest Mervyn Taylor was a wood engraver, painter, illustrator, sculptor, and designer. Mervyn was fascinated with depicting Māori life and legends within the nationalist art movement. This movement sought to capture the particular qualities of New Zealand's landscape and culture. 

His more iconic graphic wood engraving series became his most famed works. E Mervyn Taylor was known to be an expert at transforming simple lines into expressive masterpieces, creating tremendous energy and depth.
