Abstract Design is a Wellington business that was started in 1992 by Chris and Jane Baxter. Chris creates an amazing range of lazer cut products, which are manufactured in Petone.

An ornament in the shape of a Māori wharenui

These locally made gifts have found homes within New Zealand and all over the world. Each product comes as a compact, flat-packed piece of wood with the pieces lazer cut. This makes them ideal for travel and for shipping. Plus, customers get the satisfaction of being able to assemble the designs themselves. Chris has included in the range a wide selection of New Zealand flora and fauna, such as the pohutukawa flower, fern, kiwi, tui and pohutukawa. Also available are some important elements of Maori culture such as a figure doing a pose from a haka, a wharenui, and a waka. Wellington is also represented with the bright red cable car design available in three sizes.

Some designs come in a Christmas-decoration format and inclde a hook for hanging. Others are free-standing and look fantastic on a shelf, bookcase or mantlepiece. They make a unique gift that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.

Ngā mihi,
